HUTCHINSON – Ad Astra Radio is proud to announce a new bi-weekly award to recognize our classroom teachers. The Classroom Hero Award seeks to highlight the hard work and dedication of those teaching on the frontlines in our local schools. With the added stresses of the COVID-19 pandemic and remote learning, we wanted to find a way to highlight the great work our classroom teachers are doing, and to let them know how much they’re appreciated,” said Aaron West, Ad Astra Radio Operations Manager. “We’re thrilled to announce the Classroom Hero Award.” Every two weeks, a new teacher will be randomly selected, from community submissions, to receive the award, along with a gift card and gift basket. Ad Astra Radio has included several community partners in hopes of making the presentation extra special. Thank you to Heartland Credit Union, Midway Motors, and Stutzman’s Greenhouse. “Heartland is proud to support the Classroom Hero program to honor local teachers,” said Dan Springer, HCU President and CEO. “Now, more than ever, our teachers deserve our respect and gratitude for all they do for our students.” Nominations are being accepted now at https://www.adastraradio.com/classroomhero. Listen for a winning teacher to be announced every two weeks, beginning Oct. 27, on Ad Astra Radio, and watch for frequent updates at https://www.facebook.com/adastraradiokansas. Next week there will be NO SCHOOL on Monday due to inservice. Beginning on Tuesday, 10/13/20, Fairfield will transition into the FULL ORANGE stage of our gating criteria. This is due to exponential growth of the virus in Reno County in the past week. We are now at 168 new cases and a positive test rate of 14.7 %, and this number excludes prisoners. What does this mean for USD #310? All students will still be on campus, except those who are already remote learners. The elementary school day will basically look the same. However, the 7th-12th graders will see a schedule change where they will stay in the same room with the same small cohort group throughout the day, following their normal Wednesday schedule. Sports activities will not change because all games are "away" next week so we will follow the home school's rules. This action is recommended by both the RCHD and KSDE as the best way to be able to keep schools open. We are committed to keeping our schools open as long as possible. Thank you for your support and remember to do what you can to help: socially distance, wear a mask, and wash your hands.
