The Kansas Board of Education did not approve Gov. Kelly’s executive order to delay the opening of schools until after Labor Day. The board voted 5 to 5 on the executive order, but a tie means a "NO" vote. When school starts is up to each local school board to decide. SO WHEN DO WE START SCHOOL AT FAIRFIELD? Your Board of Education has previously approved a calendar where school for students starts August 19th, 2020. Our website has all of the current dates. You will get your printed calendars at enrollment in the first week of August. Whether you were for or against this order, we will work together with you for solutions to keep your children safe at school.

When does school start? Right now it all depends upon several things. First, the Governor will issue an executive order to not start public school classes until after Labor Day. This is supposed to happen today. Secondly, the Kansas State Board of Education will hold a special meeting to discuss, and then either accept/reject the governor's order. It will be broadcast virtually later this week, maybe Wednesday. (3) What happens after that is still being debated . It could eventually end up being the decision of either our County Commissioners or our local school board. We will let you know once we know.
Even though some things are uncertain at this time, one thing is for sure. We are planning on doing what we can to make children and staff safe at school when we do return.

Governor Laura Kelly announced today, July 15, that she will issue an executive order next week that will delay the opening of schools until after Labor Day. According to Governor Kelly, this additional time will allow schools to thoroughly review the plan and create strategies that are best for each district.
The State Board of Education on Wednesday accepted the K-12 reopening guidance but board members said local school boards will be making final decisions on how to start the school year. Meanwhile, Gov. Laura Kelly has scheduled a news conference at 3 p.m. today to talk about the upcoming school year.
